We are thrilled to announce another valuable addition to the Manitoba Women’s Enterprise Centre Advising team!
We asked our recent hire, Yvette, to answer three questions so we can all get to know her a little better. Please join us in giving her a big, warm welcome!
Just so you know, for the minute it will take you to read this, the spotlight will be all on ‘me’ and I’ll be totally out of my comfort zone the entire time! I’m a visual artist, a creative writer, and an adventurer-in-training (which may sound exciting, but really it means that I have yet to attempt basic toddler stuff like tree climbing and learning to spit). I’m also a proud citizen of the Manitoba Métis Federation.
Self-employed since 2002, I’ve experienced all that business ownership entails—from startup to selling and then starting up all over again. I’m great with new entrepreneurs, especially when you’re knee-deep in business plan writing. If this is you, you know where to find me. I’ve been told I’m personable and charming, and I think I’m kinda fun too.
What drew you to work for MWEC?
At the start of my own self-employment dream, I was extremely fortunate to receive advising and funding support from MWEC, and I successfully launched two service-based companies in the mineral exploration sector. As a result, I was recognized as a Co-finalist for the 2013 Women’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award. I will always be grateful for MWEC, and now I can ‘pay it forward’ by supporting other women entrepreneurs as they develop, operate, and grow their own dreams.
What are four local women-owned businesses you will be supporting this Spring?
As I anxiously wait for another glorious prairie summer, I’ll be checking out Must Have Pockets, Kristie MAH, and Andréanne Mulaire Dandeneau for some much-needed seasonal wardrobe updates. And for cool motorcycle gear (I don’t ride yet but I’m a great passenger), I’ll be ordering from Tina at Machine Girl Motorsports.
