After working for several years in the medical records field then taking on responsibilities on the family farm in Argyle, Joan decided to follow her design passion. She attended Red River College, graduating first from the design program and then from drafting. Following that, she began designing cabinets in a custom cabinet shop.
In 2002, Joan launched Grandmont Designs. Based on the farm in Argyle, Joan provides in-home consultation to clients looking to make interior changes. With the aid of her computer, she is able to work with each client and provide them with printed plans for their redesign. It doesn’t stop there though; Joan then works with various suppliers to ensure that the renovation results are just what the client was expecting.
Her first clients were in rural communities but word of mouth has increased her client base to include both large and small centres.
Joan credits her success to two organizations. “I learned about the Women’s Enterprise Centre of Manitoba and contacted them for help and guidance.
If it wasn’t for their professionalism and solid support, I don’t know if would have made it or even been able to have a viable business.” She goes on to say, “The biggest asset I have is my association with the Women’s Business Owners of Manitoba, Winnipeg Chapter. They have also supported and elevated me and my business to a degree that I could only have imagined. To all those women I will be eternally grateful. I am a firm believer in women supporting women. From WEC to WBO, I never hesitate to tell other women about these organizations. I like to think I am paying it forward.”Visit Website
