On September 30, the Women’s Enterprise Centre of Manitoba will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a new statutory day of remembrance recently announced by the Government of Canada. Our offices will be closed on September 30 and will reopen at 8:30AM on Friday October 1.
We acknowledge this day to honour First Nations, Inuit and Métis survivors, their families and their communities, and to ensure that the public commemoration of their history and the legacy of residential schools remains a vital part of the reconciliation process.
With thoughtful reflection and a mindset to inform and educate ourselves, this day gives us an opportunity to consider how we may support reconciliation efforts with residential school survivors, and all of those affected by these tragedies.
In order to recognize the day appropriately, we encourage those who haven’t yet done so, to read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action as well as the powerful report on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Change comes with knowledge and understanding which is the foundation for dialogue.
