Karen is a highly motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, relationship builder with more than 30 years’ experience growing businesses through creative business development strategies. She is currently a Life Insurance & Financial Solutions Specialist with Castle Insurance Group Inc., where she helps her clients achieve their goals and dreams, whether they are just starting on their journey or are at some point along the way.

Karen’s work experience is diverse. She spent 16+ years in the not-for-profit sector (medical research institutes and agricultural research commercialization) working primarily in senior management roles which included Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Public Relations and Business Development.

She is also an entrepreneur, having run three different businesses. Her first company, Sparrow Office Solutions, was created from her finance experience and provided customized bookkeeping and financial reporting systems for small businesses and associations. Her second business, Willow Creek Golf for Her, was created from her passion for golf and provided a full-service one-stop shop for clothing, equipment, accessories, and gifts for women golfers. She obtained some of her financing for this venture through WECM. Her current business, as a Life Insurance & Financial Solutions Specialist, offers a wide array of products to protect her clients including Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, Long-Term Care Insurance, Group Benefits, Travel Insurance, Private Health Plans, and insurance to protect Investments.

She has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and achieved her CMA (now CPA) accounting designation in 2012. Karen is a member of Advocis and is working towards her Certified Financial Planner designation.

Karen has been married to her high school sweetheart for 27 years and has two adult children and one (soon to be two) grandchildren. She loves being a Grandma!

Providing community leadership through volunteering is very important to Karen. She currently sits on the Finance Committee of the Southwood Golf & Country Club. In the past she has held numerous volunteer positions related to sports groups, childcare centres, and women business owners. She is looking forward to being a part of the WECM Board and sharing her entrepreneurial expertise!
