As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child." At the Women's Enterprise Centre of Manitoba, we rely on the knowledge, skills and experience of many people to provide insight into the initiatives that assist women throughout the province to start, grow and transform their businesses. Our talented Board of Directors provides governance and policy direction to the Staff of the Centre.
In order to effectively govern an organization that serves women entrepreneurs, at least 60% of our Board must be comprised of individuals who currently own their own business or who have had entrepreneurial experience. Professional expertise and rural representation are also very important considerations in the Board selection process.
Applications to fill Board vacancies are sought via the Women’s Enterprise Centre of Manitoba website and through referrals from the community. Applicants may submit their resume to the Board Chair (wecinfo@wecm.ca) at any time during the year. Applications are reviewed in April and shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the Board’s Nominating Committee. Official appointments take place at the Annual General Meeting in June.
A comprehensive Board Policy outlines the duties and responsibilities of the Board. Each year, Members are expected to attend six Board Meetings (three hours each), participate in the occasional standing or ad hoc committee meeting, and attend special events that are hosted by the Centre.
If you are interested in becoming a Board Member, please e-mail the Board Chair (wecinfo@wecm.ca) or call 1 800-203-2343.
